There’s a new Chatroulette spinoff in town: meet ChatVille . It’s a Facebook app that combines the basic video chat elements of Chatroulette with the game mechanics, badges and leveling up of casual games like FarmVille . Just like in Chatroulette , you have the opportunity to get paired up with a total stranger — but since the app can also take advantage of your Facebook social graph, you can also invite specific friends to chat with you as well.

Who says down necessarily means out? Despite our qualms with the JooJoo tablet, it looks as if the startup is pushing forward with plans to expand availability beyond US borders, as the Fusion Garage order page now clearly states that orders are being accepted from those with addresses in Europe and the Great White North. There’s no exact ship date listed for either of those nations (we’re guessing it’ll depart within 24 to 48 business hours), but pricing is pegged at $499 CAD with free shipping for our northerly neighbors, while those in Europe are being asked to pay €359 ($473) plus €13 ($17) in shipping fees. As to those user experience shortcomings, Chandra Rathakrishnan promises us a “robust software update” in short order that will apparently eliminate many of the widely reported problems with the device

Rounding off the first-ever Twitter developer conference, Chirp , was a lightning-fast roundup of a few apps the Twitter team found fascinating enough to showcase for the 1000-hacker crowd. Each team got exactly 140 seconds to present their wares, and all showcasing apps were judged by an all-star lineup that included moderator and Twitter product VP Jason Goldman, Marissa Mayer of Google, Y-Combinator founder Paul Graham and Blippy co-founder Philip Kaplan. Each app gives some insight into how Twitter thinks developers should approach the platform — and how leaders in tech see the future of Twitter apps.
According to various reports, Demand Media has enlisted Goldman Sachs to explore an initial public offering (IPO). Previously, Goldman Sachs was part of a $100 million Series C round that Demand raised in 2007. The Financial Times reports that Demand could file for an IPO before the end of the summer this year.
